Khlong Root is a freshwater canal fed by springs, so clear you can watch the fish over the sand beneath your kayak and so still that the trees on both banks appear twice. It is flat, sheltered and unhurried — no experience needed, and children and grandparents can share a boat. Joy's tip: paddle first, then stay for lunch by the water, and finish the day with sunset from the Khao Phra temple viewpoint.
